A Day On The Job

We sit down
Report begins
An enema "Stat" for Mr. Quinn

The O.R. called
Wher are the labs?
Mrs. O'Mallay is prepped
and they are under the tab

Rounds are complete
Orders are written
The post-op wants to know
When can I eat??

Lunch is here
We are missing a tray
Call dietary
They thought the hernia in room 202 didn't stay

Lunch break for the nurses
the feet are propped up
Fire drill now
Needed coffee left in the cup

Mrs. O'Mallay is back
Dressing to check
Transferher to her bed
Time to write down the facts

Shift change here
Orders carried through
Pass on information
My concious is clear

Sitting in the car
Think through the day
Patients behind
but in my mind
They are never far away
